We asked Pete about his initial feelings towards the upcoming season and how he feels about moving to Kotka.
Hi Pete and welcome to Kotka!
How are you feeling now that you’ve signed with the Eagles?
I am very happy and I’m excited, I’m looking forward to meeting all the Eagle family and getting to work for the season. A great summer ahead.
Tell us about your football history? Where have you played and what are your biggest accomplishments in football?
I began playing in 2012 in Ireland for my home club the Meath Bulldogs, I was the league leader in Touchdowns for over a span of 5 years. I then moved club to the Dublin Rebels in 2017 and won my first National Championship,
where I led the team in Touchdowns and total yardage.
In 2018 we were defeated in the National Championship final, following the season I was selected to play for my National Team the Irish Wolfhounds,
we defeated the Belgian National Team in my Hometown of Navan and I scored the Game Winning Touchdown in the dying seconds of the game.
In 2019 we rematched the Belgium team Away and we narrowly defeated them 7-6.
In 2020 I signed my first professional contract with the Pori Bears of Finland’s div.1. We were defeated by ironically the Kotka Eagles in the playoffs!
I finished the season as a league’s All-Star and with my versatility on the field i led the divison in Total Tackles.
In 2021 I resigned with the Pori Bears, where again we were defeated in the playoffs by the Kotka Eagles!
2022 I signed with the Rostock Griffins of the German Football League, a poor start to the season resulted in playing catch up and we narrowly missed out on a playoff appearance.
Later in 2022 I would go on to have my 4th International Cap for the Irish National Team (Irish Wolfhounds). This time I was selected as the Team Captain, something I was very honoured to do.
We entered Group B of the European Championships vs. Team Spain.
We were defeated by a tough experienced Spanish national side.
Now as we move forward I plan to continue to build the program by generating a winning culture on the international stage, leading by example.
What do you expect from next season?
My expectations are pretty high, returning back to a division that I’m no stranger to, with a club who have strong intentions of winning another Championship, I feel great things are upon us, and I’m excited to be apart of the journey.
What do you know about Kotka as a city?
I’ve been to Kotka a few times before,
It is a beautiful place in the summer with the sea port and the city center located on an island surrounded by the sea.
What can our fans expect from you?
I always enjoyed playing against the Kotka fans, they are loud and passionate for their Eagles, I’m excited to be on the Home side this time.
They can expect great energy from me, and of course I plan to execute exciting plays for the fans on gamedays at Home! I am also very excited to Coach the junior teams and the Ladies team, and being apart of the family culture.
Any fun facts about you?
I was an advanced junior Golfer. I played on provincial and international teams and I had a golf handicap as low as 1!
Who will win the Super Bowl and why?
I think the Kansas City Chiefs will win. Patrick Mahomes experience on the big stage is gonna play a huge part. Most importantly I’m excited for a good game.
